Sri Lanka is warm and sunny year round with an average temperature of 27ºC in Colombo. The central hill country is cooler with temperatures dropping to 14ºC. The south west monsoon brings rain to the western, southern and central regions from May to July, while the north east monsoon brings rain to the north and east in December and January
A tourist visa, valid for 30 days, is granted on arrival at Colombo Airport. Visitors much have a valid passport for the duration of the visa
Vaccinations against hepatitis A, typhoid, polio are recommended and prophylaxis for malaria
The unit of currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) with an indicative exchange rate of GBP1 = LKR250
The languages of Sri Lanka are Sinhala, Tamil and English. English is widely spoken except in remote villages
